About Arts & Culture Working Group
The Arts and Culture working group is being led by our partner organization Arts & Cultural Alliance of Newport County and FabNewport. Among many other outcomes, involvement in the arts has been shown to abate stress and enhance immune function, develop communication and self-expression skills, and reduce delinquency and neighborhood crime.
Background
The Arts and Culture Working Group works to help HEZ residents advocate for and participate in arts and culture initiatives within the North End and Broadway neighborhoods. The group began in 2015 to conduct the Needs Assessment, from which the Sidewalk Parade and Tree Path events developed. The Arts and Culture Working Group was reestablished in November 2019 to conduct the next iteration of the HEZ Needs Assessment and continue working towards the group’s goals.
Goals:
- Conduct a needs assessment to determine the existing arts and culture resources, the barriers in accessing those resources, and a vision for the future arts and cultural landscape in the HEZ.
- Facilitate the planning of the annual Sidewalk Parade and Tree Path Celebration.
- Support local artists.
- Promote existing arts and cultural resources.
- Partner with existing art organizations in arts and cultural events that are relevant to HEZ residents.
